1 General Safety Instructions

This instruction provides general guidelines to be used during mounting andinstallation of Freelance hardware. This instruction must be supplemented bynational or local standards depending upon the specific needs of the installation site.

Freelance controllers, power supplies and accessories are created in accordance withthe generally accepted technical rules. Nevertheless, there still exists the danger ofperson or property damage if the following basic safety information and thewarnings in this instruction are not followed.

1.1 Personnel requirements

The product or system described in this documentation may be operated only byqualified personnel for the specific task. This is in accordance with the relevantdocumentation for the specific task. Power supplies, 110/230 V I/O terminals, fusing elements and other componentsin the vicinity are operated with dangerous voltages. Touching components thatare under such high voltages can cause grave damage to health

In order to avoid such risks and the occurrence of material damage, everyoneinvolved in the assembly, commissioning, and servicing should possess specificknowledge of the following:

• The automation domain
• Dealing with dangerous voltages

• The use of standards and regulations, particularly IEC 364 or VDE 0 105,
  regulations on accident

1.2 Use as directed

ABB products may only be used for the applications described in the catalog and inthe relevant technical documentation. If products and components from othermanufacturers are used, these must be recommended or approved by ABB. Propertransport, storage, installation, assembly, commissioning, operation andmaintenance are required to ensure that the products operate safely and without anyproblems. Adhere to permissible ambient conditions. The information in therelevant documentation must be observed. The equipment must only be operatedwithin the environmental conditions specified in the data sheet; otherwise theprotection provided by the equipment may be impaired. The same applies in respectto the specified electrical and mechanical data.
